Her Royal Highness's Annual Christmas Carol Concert Spotlights Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual Yuletide celebration at Westminster Abbey, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Love and Generosity

The central message of the service, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

In the audience are a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a tumour, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the carol service.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the charity, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Sisterly Duo

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be people from various age groups.

That will encompass young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
